About Boarding School
Go back: Home / Admissions

According to The Association of Boarding Schools, boarding schools can be defined as independent, college preparatory schools that provide housing facilities for students and faculty. In reality, they are much, much more.

Structure
Boarding schools are able to create an environment in which students' time is well monitored. Education, athletics, clubs and social activities are scheduled for their positive impact on students. In this way, students are introduced to good habits that will lead to a lifetime of rewards.

High Expectations
Students find that the expectations of boarding schools far exceed those of their public school counterparts. Students are expected to behave and achieve at exemplary levels. They are challenged to be even better than they believe they are capable. And they rise to the challenge.

Peer Relationships
Relationships in a boarding school environment are more intense and meaningful. Students have an opportunity to get to know their peers on a very personal level, learn to work out the challenges of adolescence and hone their social skills.

Multicultural Opportunities
Students who live in a boarding school environment are exposed to many different cultures. They have the unique opportunity to interact daily with students from all over the world, learning new customs and appreciating their differences.

Sense of Community
Teachers, coaches, cottage faculty and support staff all know the students when they live in a boarding school. It is this sense of community that is a powerful motivator to many students. Students are able to seek assistance and solve problems with the intervention of a myriad of role models that live in close proximity to them. This sense of community is remembered long after a student leaves the school.

Involvement
When students live in a community, it naturally follows that they will be responsible for its successful existence. This means that they will become actively involved in many of the tasks that are necessary to make the community function. These activities may range from advisory groups, to big brothers or orientation guides. Our boarding school also encourages our boys to take part in chapel services. Students learn why community involvement is an important aspect of life and these lessons set the stage for our community leaders of the future.
