cottage exterior

Small, bright “cottage” dormitories help to provide a positive atmosphere that encourages intellectual, emotional and social growth. Each cottage is under the supervision of cottage faculty, who are responsible for the students' well being. Cottage life offers a unique opportunity for a young man to learn to live with and understand people from different social, cultural and ethnic groups from his own. Cottage life is an experience that will remain with young men forever. The skills that students develop in the residence halls are skills that will help them exist in an adult community in a very positive way.

cottage interiorDuring grades seven and eight, students are assigned to one of three cottages, comprised only of students their own ages. Once a student enters high school, he is able to request his cottage assignment and resides with other upperschool students.

Cottage Faculty will work with students in the cottages throughout the academic year assisting them to accomplish the following:

  • Foster appreciation and respect for differences in individuals
  • Help students develop study skills and attitudes necessary to be academically successful
  • Encourage conscious moral reasoning and a desire to be honest, just, courageous, and considerate
  • Build a sense of community and cooperation
  • Facilitate each student’s active engagement in action to improve society
  • Help each student show concern and respect for all members of the community, including himself
  • Help students develop self-confidence as they learn to live honestly with their abilities and limitations
  • Promote self-discipline and responsible decision making
